WHS Regulation 48 — Remote & Isolated Work

Effective Communication Is Legally Required

Under the national Work Health & Safety Regulation (Reg 48), any person conducting a business must provide a system of work that includes effective communication with workers performing remote or isolated work. Bus drivers — particularly on regional, school, and community routes — meet this definition. Maximum penalty: 345 penalty units for a body corporate. We own the infrastructure — not rent it

Our servers are ours — Hewlett Packard Enterprise hardware, running in Equinix ISO-certified Australian data centres. Not AWS, not Azure, not a shared cloud VM. We own the hardware, which is why we can guarantee 100% uptime and why your data has never and will never leave Australia.

Lockdown mode — drivers can’t break it

Our devices run custom firmware that blocks access to the Android operating system. Drivers can’t enable Airplane Mode, sign into personal accounts, browse the internet, or disable the SIM. From their perspective, it’s a two-way radio. For you, it’s a managed fleet device.

Exclusive Australian importer — no grey market

The questions we always get.

What happens if the cellular network goes down?
The same thing that happens to everyone’s phones — but cellular networks are high-availability by design. We’ve maintained 100% uptime on our own server network for over five years. We’ll also check cellular coverage on your specific routes before you commit to anything. For operators who need satellite fallback on remote routes, our VaaN solution adds Starlink as a second bearer — PTT continues even when the cellular tower is unreachable.
Is setup complicated?
No. Devices arrive pre-programmed with your driver names, vehicle names or rego numbers, and your channel configuration. You hand them out or install them (or have our Dealers install them for you). That’s it. No IT support, no configuration software. We’ve had some customers with multi-depot fleets up and running in under an hour.
We run long regional routes. Will coverage hold?
If there’s 4G or 5G coverage on your routes, your drivers can talk. We’ll map your routes against our network coverage before you commit. We don’t take money we haven’t earned. For routes with genuine rural blackspots, the VaaN satellite option fills the gaps — Starlink plus 4G/5G is as close to 100% coverage as physically possible on any route in Australia.
What’s the minimum fleet size?
There isn’t one. We work with fleets from 5 buses to 2000+. If you have drivers on routes and you need to reach them, we can help. Pricing is per unit per month — you pay for what you deploy.
How is this different from Zello or other PTT apps?
Zello is a consumer app running on personal smartphones over the public internet with no duress integration, no call recording, no Australian data hosting, and no compliance documentation. We own a dedicated PTT network with purpose-built hardware. Drivers can’t access the Android OS, can’t disable the SIM, can’t switch apps mid-shift. It runs on our own servers in Australia. The difference is a radio network versus a walkie-talkie app on someone’s personal phone.
Can you handle multiple depots on different channels?
Yes — there’s no practical limit to the number of groups or channels. Each depot, each route type, or each business unit can have its own channel. Drivers can be programmed with access to all channels across the fleet, or restricted to their own depot’s channels. All channel management is remote — no plugging laptops into radios.
What exactly does the Web Dispatcher include?
Live GPS mapping, vehicle tracking with breadcrumb history, duress/SOS management platform, voice recording and playback (36-month retention), job ticketing, lone worker management, guard patrol tools, group messaging, real-time radio control, missed call queue, and statistics and log reporting. It runs in any browser, requires no software install, and is always on the latest version. It is the most advanced PTT dispatcher platform available in Australia.
Are there lock-in contracts?
Yes — there are minimum term contracts, and that’s deliberate. You’re investing in hardware and you want us committed to delivering a professional service for the term. The term is negotiated. Pricing is transparent and fixed — no per-call charges, no data overages. You can speak to a real engineer at any time. We’re not a telco.
